Dachshund portraits

The dachshund, at full length

That long, low silhouette, the ears, the eyebrows that carry entire opinions. A dachshund deserves a portrait that takes them seriously.

Dachshund portraits: example portrait
Framed in black, white or oak.

Painted at full length

The dachshund's proportions are the whole point. We paint the body long and the legs short, the chest deep and the tail where it belongs. A doxie squeezed into a terrier's frame is not your doxie.

Every coat, every pattern

Smooth red, black and tan, chocolate, cream, long-haired and wire. Dapples and piebalds are mapped where they actually fall, including the odd blue eye a dapple sometimes carries.

Styles that suit a dachshund

Dutch Old Master, lying on an oak table in a shaft of light, is the natural home of a dachshund. Royal Renaissance suits the self-appointed aristocrat. Regency Portrait suits the quieter, wiser sort.

For the grey-muzzled

Senior dachshunds wear their silver well. We keep the grey, the softened eyes and the dignity, and for those no longer with us, our memorial portraits are painted with particular care.

Questions

Will you get the body length right?

Yes. The proportions are checked against your photographs, and you approve every portrait before it is made.

Can you paint a dapple dachshund?

Dapple coats are a favourite of ours. Every patch is placed as it appears in your photos.

What photo works best?

One side-on photo to show their length and one at eye level for the face, in daylight.
